One of the most common questions we get from home buyers is whether or not they should bring cash to their house closing. The answer is almost always no!
There are a few reasons why bringing cash to a closing is generally not a good idea. First, it can be difficult to verify the source of the funds. Lenders want to make sure that the money used to purchase a home is from an acceptable source, and cash can be harder to track.
Another reason is that it can create security concerns. If you’re carrying a large amount of cash, it could make you a target for theft. It’s also important to remember that most closings are held in public places, so there’s always the potential for someone to see you with a large amount of cash and become suspicious.
Finally, it’s just not necessary. In almost all cases, you can simply bring a cashier’s check or wire the funds to cover your down payment and closing costs. If you have any questions about how to best prepare for your closing, be sure to ask your real estate agent or lender.
